Where did our elected leaders go?

In 2009 President Obama took over as our first African-American president. That was the day government shut down. The Republicans vowed that making him a one term president was there number one priority. They would do anything to make that happen. In their efforts to unseat him, they did irreapairable harm to America. They created a divide so wide that if you disagree with a conservatives point of view, you are a Nazi, a marxist, a socialist and a traitor.

Health care costs were raging out of control. Increasing about 200% since the year 2004. I did not have a copay in 2004, meds cost 10-20-30. By 2008 I was paying $65 a week and 20-35-55 for meds. Office visits went from $10 to $20 and specialists $25 to $75. The ACA was put into effect to stem the rising costs, help get the uninsured insured at a reasonable rate and stop people being denied for pre-existing conditions. Despite the President and Democrats trying to stem health care costs, which were crippling our manufacturing sector, Republicans railed against it. In fact they have voted 41 times to repeal it, costing us $60 million dollars with those votes, some fiscal hawks right. What is wrong with stopping people from losing their homes when they get sick. Shows who Republicans really work for.

Republicans attacked President Obama over unemployment. While at the same time shooting down his jobs bill, which would have created a million new jobs. They said the unemployment rate was to high. But when the president got it under 8%, they said the president doesn’t create jobs. Republicans took over the House in 2010, they have not created a single job. They are much more concerned with anti-abortion laws and religious laws. The president’s economic plan is working despite sequestration and continued Republican interference. If Republicans were willing to work with Democrats maybe their input would be in these bills, possibly even improving them.

Paul Ryan, John Boehner and several other prominent Republicans have said that there is no longer a debt crisis. Yet these so called budget hawks try to take the country hostage on the debt ceiling. First this is just for bills that Congress already approved. Why would they not approve money for spending they already approved? It is a domestic terrorist attack designed to further an agenda that caters to corporations, ALEC, the Koch Brothers and NRA amongst others. These is not what our forefathers envisioned when they wrote the Constitution.

Governor Corbett’s education budget is preferential treatment masquerading as broad based supplements.

Recently Pennsylvania gave an extra $1 million in state money to a school district through an unusually specific supplement. Only one district, Hazleton Area School District, recieved the $1 million. As much as that cash strapped district can use the money, so can almost every other School District in Pennsylvania.

There was a bit more than $30 million handed out to a few schools under titles like Small School District Supplement, Small Rural School District Supplement and Third Class County School District Supplement. There are 154 districts in the states 12 third class counties, designation is determined by population. But to qualify for the piece of the $1 million supplement, a district had to have a stare calculated “Aid Ratio” that fell in a very narrow range, leaving only 24 qualified districts. 6 of those districts were in Luzerne County, 5 of them, as well as 18 out of the 24 did not meet the last requirement based on enrollment for the supplement. It seems as if the supplement was tailor made for the full $1 million to go to Hazleton.

There were 12 supplements, 6 went to single districts. With the rest divided by 2 and 3 to 5 districts. The $500,000 Rural School District Supplement went to Phillipsburg-Osceola School District in Clearfield County. The $500,000 Small School District Supplement went entirely to Penns Valley Area School District in Centre County. If size was the only consideration, requirement was 1,600 students or fewer, it could have been divided between 166 districts, 152 of which were smaller.

This is not a reflection on the School Districts who recieved these supplements. With all the cuts Corbett and his Republican supporters made to the Education Budget, any and all schools needs this money. This is a direct reflection on Governor Corbett and his ludicrous policies. All of the School Districts are suffering with him as Governor. Instead of focusing on Education, he has focused on Privatizing Liquor Sales, Privatizing the Pennsylvania Lottery and another Anti-Abortion lawmaker. He has Pennsylvania ranked 49th in the country in job creation. Good job Governor.

A recent poll shows how Pennsylvanians feel about Governor Corbett. 43% of Republicans believe he will be reelected. 25% of Independents believe he should be reelected. Democrats just plain want him outvof office. He is as much as 10% behind his probable Democrat challenger for Governor. Things are not looking peachy for Corbett and it is his own doing. To sacrafice Education and Seniors to give large Tax Breaks to corporations does not endear you to the people.

Republicans in North Carolina try to sneak anti-abortion law into Anti Sharia Law Bill.

Republicans in North Carolina attempted a sneak attack on abortion rights. The State Legislature was voting on an Anti-Sharia Law Bill, yes a bill to stop muslim law from being used in North Carolina, yes ridiculous I know. They shoved the Abortion Law into a law forbidding foreign law. Republicans recently tried passing Anti-Abortion Laws through state budgets and other sneak attack ways.

The Bill would require abortion clinics to be up to ambulatory surgical center standards. Currently only one clinic in the state meets those standards. This bill would effectively close all but one abortion clinic in the state. It would also require clinics to have a transfer agreements with local hospitals. It would also require a doctor to be present when they administer RU486, a drug that induces abortions.

The measure was unveiled in a unusual late afternoon session. The only thing on the calender was about a controversial family law bill, that may cause U.S. law to be not recognized in foreign courts. Although not on the docket, the Legislature almost immediately started talking about the amendment. It took Democrats by surprise and they were very uncomfortable with the actions Republicans took in sneaking this bill into an unrelated bill.

Republicans in state legislatures across the country are trying to force these anti-abortion bills in special sessions and other odd ways. Instead of focusing on jobs or the economy they have turned their attentions to abortion. Women will not have a choice if it is up to the Republicans. Federal Law, the law of the land, Roe v. Wade stipulates one thing and Republicans are stomping all over the Constitution. So much for Constitutional protectors.

Governor Rick Perry has called another special session, another attempt to force his ideals on women.

About a week after State Rep. Wendy Davis filibustered for 13 hours and the people helped stop more Anti-abottion legislation, Governor Rick Perry called another special session. He is determined in his Pro-Life opinion to stop women from having abortions. He spoke about Texas appreciating the sanctity of life right around the same time Texas killed its 500th person with the death penalty.

Texas is again doing away with the 2/3s majority vote in an attempt to undermine Democrats. He and his Republican cohorts are determined not to lose again. They are pulling out all of the stops. This special session will be a month long and they are starting on HB2 immeadiately. They also need to get it done beford midnight regardless of the number of speakers. The room it is being held in is not large enough for a of the lawmakers and citizens. These are some of the Democrats concerns.

It seems that Governor Perry does not care about the will of the people. He continues in his quest to alienate voters through his totalitarian way of running the state. The Filibuster that stopped the original bill is going to be hard to repeat. This has become the Republican partys issuevof choice. They have abandoned creating jobs, helping the economy, in fact doing anything constructive in order to control Womens reproductive rights.

While Republicans spout off about the 2nd Amendment and how their party protects the U.S. Constitution they stomp all over our 1st Amendment rights. In the United States we do not have a State Religion, in fact it is illegal for the government, state, local or federal to force religious beliefs on anyone. The Texas Governor is guilty of this as well as the whole Republican party. Apparently they misinterpreted tg e Constitution.

Mississippi’s slippery anti-abortion slope.

On March 14,  2009, 31 weeks into her pregnancy, Nina Buckhalter gave birth to a stillborn baby girl. She named her Hayley Jade. 2 months later, a Grand Jury in Lamar County, Mississippi indicted Buckhalter for manslaughter. The D.A. argued that tge methamphetamine in Buckhalter’s system caused Hayley Jade’s death. The State Supreme Court heard arguements on April 2 and is expected to rule soon on whether the prosecution can move forward.

If prosecutors prevail in this case, the state sets a dangerous precedent. That unintentional pregnancy loss can be treated as a form of homocide. Mississippi’s manslaughter laws were not set up to apply to stillbirths or miscarriages. Four times between 1998-2002, Mississippi lawmakers rejected proposals that would set specific penalties for damaging a fetus by using illegal drugs.

Mississippi’s prosecutors claim that 2 other state laws allow them to charge Buckhalter. One defines manslaughter as the killing of a human being, by the act, procurement or culpable negligence of another. The other states that an unborn child at every stage of gestation, from conception to live birth is included in the state’s definition of human beings. Obviously the second reasob violates Roe v. Wade, a Supreme Court decision that is U.S. Constitional law. In the U.S. Federal Law is the law of the land, therefore it supersedes state laws.

The cause of any stillbirth or miscarriage is difficult to determine. Many experts believe there is no conclusive evidence that exposure to drugs in utero can cause a miscarriage or stillbirth. But this opens the door to charge women for drinking herbal tea, eating unpasteurized cheese and lunch meats, all of which Doctors recomend against. If a women had a miscarriage after drinking herbal tea, could she be charged with manslaughter?

Critics are also saying that Buckhalter is collateral damage in Mississippi’s abortion wars. In 2011 there was a State Ballot Initiative to grant full rights to fertilized eggs, which would make all abortions illegal all of the time. The measure failed, but Pro-Life supporters vow to try again in 2015 and lawmakers are attempting to close the State’s last abortion clinic. The unintended cause of this case could be more women seeking abortions, for fear of being prosecuted.

Republicans believe they can force religious beliefs on the American public. If the Constitution diesnt say what they want, it can be avoided by nullification, which is CONSTITUTIONALY ILLEGAL. Democrars work within the confines if the Constitution, as does President Obama, who many Republicans refer to as a dictator. Simply put, the Supreme Court said abortion was legal until the viability of the fetus, which us about 23-25 weeks. It is FEDERAL LAW, which I cannot say enough, supersedes state laws. We are not a loose coalition of countries, we are the United States if America.

That being said I think anyone the does drugs, drinks or smokes cigarettes while pregnant are selfish and irresponsible. Charging them for manslaughter when it cannot be conclusively proven is an abuse if the law. Try charging them with negligence and move on from there. I am not an expert, but on this my opinion of drug use certainly effects my opinions. But that being said, can you charge a wonen for not breast feeding, that is supposed to be the healthiest way to feed a child. There are studies that suggest that not breast feeding causes health problems later in life. So are you going to charge a woman for using formula. It is a slippery slope.

Religion and Politics a bad mix.

Any law maker who uses religion to make political decisions is letting the people down. It is a recipe for madness and zealotry. It will breed contempt between people not to mention different religions. The U.S. Constitution prohibits any type of state religion.

The fact that politicians are using religion to make decisions, is forcing religious beliefs on others. The 1st Amendment forbids us from setting up a state religion, to push religious beliefs on others violates our freedom of religion. The religious argument Republicans make against abortion are Unconstutional. When the Roe v. Wade decision was rendered it became Constitutional law, which in the U.S. overrides religion.

If we let religion become part of our government, we will be no better than the Middle Eastern countries. What would be that Catholic version of Sharia Law? Our Constitution was written to stop religion from becoming part of our government. Knowing what has happened in other countries that were ruled by religion should have educated our elected leaders. But apparently the Republicans didnt get the memo.

Democrats support our Constitution and believe in it. They believe in religious freedom and support women’s reproductive rights. Republicans call for smaller government but want to control all women’s uteruses. Democrats want immigration reform, they ended both wars and do not force the religious ideas down anyone’s throats. What is more important to government, Religious belief or the Constitution? YOU CHOOSE.

The Republicans will keep trying to tear down President Obama.

They are trying to get a President Obama by going after Attorney General Eric Holder. They were questioning him about everything that happened over the last 4 years. Mr. Holder answered all he could and got a little testy at least once.

They are trying to get to the “bottom” of the IRS scandal, the Boston Marathon bombing and any other thing they can. One Republican was going after Holder for the abortion Dr. in Pa. who would kill live babies. My answer to that, do not force women to go to clowns like that. Every Republican law that moves forward against abortion, puts women into a position where they will go anywhere for that form of care. Attorney General Holder stood his ground, but it seems as if he is being left out to dry.

Republicans are fixated on the IRS scandal, although there were several liberal groups who went through the dame process as the Tea Party Groups. In 2004 the IRS illegally targeted the NAACP, and at other points in Bush’s tenure the IRS went after Planned Parenthood. I am not saying it is right, because it is not, but it us not unprecedented.

Republicans are trying to stop President Obama and Democrats from going forward with his second term agenda. This party willingly lied us onto war, browbeat Democrats into giving out TARP funds without any rules and deregulated the banking industry so much it directly led to the Great Recession. But they do not have an agenda in any of their empty attacks. They already started attacking Hillary Clinton for the 2016 Presidential election. They care not for the people, only for the scratch.
