We are already paying a high price for carbon pollution. Extreme weather costs us billions of dollars each year. Climate change makes our food and water less secure, threatens our coast lines with sea level rise, damages our natural resources and affects human health. Contrary to conservative, Tea Party and Republican belief climate change is a real issue.
Weather and climate play a significant role in peoples health. Changes in climate affect the average weather conditions that we are accustomed to. Warmer temperatures could lead to more heat related illnesses and deaths. Increases in the frequency or severity of storms could increase the risk of dangerous flooding, highwinds and other direct threats to property or people. Warmer temperatures could increase the concentrations of unhealthy air and water pollutants. Changes in temperature, precipitation patternsand extreme events could enhance the spread of some diseases. All of the health risks depend on some key factors. The effectiveness of a community public health and safety system to address or prepare for the risk of diseases based on behavior, age, gender and economic status of the individuals affected. Impacts willvary by region, the sensitivity of population, the extent and length of exposure to climate change impacts and societys ability to adapt to change.
The U.S. Climate Change Science Program has released a report called “Synthesis and Assessment Product 4.3”; the affects of climate change on agriculture, land resources, water resources and bio-diversity in the U.S. The report finds that climate change is already affecting U.S. water resources l, agriculture, land resources and bio-diversity and will continue to do so.
The study shows grain and oil seed crops will mature more rapidly, but increasing temperatures will increase the risk for crop failures, particularly if precipitation decreases or becomes more variable. Higher temperatureswill negatively affect livestock. Warmer winters will reduce mortality but this will be more than offset by greater mortality rates in the hotter summers. Hotter temperatures will reduce the productivity of livestock and dairy animals. It has also contributed to higher precipitation and streamflow over the 20th century. Forests have been impacted by more frequent fires, insect outbreaks and tree mortality.
Another reports states how certain types of weather events have become more frequent and or intense, including hwatwaves, heavy downpours and in some regions droughts and floods. Evidence for climate change abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans. The evidence has been compiled by scientists and engineers from around the world, using satellites, weather balloons, thermometers, buoys and other observing systems. The sun total of this evidence tells an unambiguous story, the planet us warming.
President Obama called for climate change science to become a priority. Democrats strongly backed him, attempting to move studies forward. They were met by Republicans and Tea Party with harsh and usually outright ours in opposition to climate change. The conservatives are more focused on 2nd Amendment rights, unconstitutionally banning abortion and stalling the economy to make the President look bad. This time the Republicans behavior nit just theoretically hurts people, but does hurt people. Look at Superstorm Sandy, argyement over.
