Governor Scott Walker trying to slip ALEC education legislation into budget.

Governor Scott Walker is attempting to radically overhaul Wisconsin’s education system using several pieces of ALEC’s model legislation. He is attempting to do it through the budget process, meaning this privatization agenda could be enacted with minimal input from the public. These budget provisions will tax the taxpayers for private and religious school.

On the campaign trail in 2010, Walker pledged to strip policy and pork projects from the state budget. At least 46 non-budgetary items have been slipped into the 2013-2015 budget proposal. Included in these 46 are ALEC connected proposals limiting school board oversight for charter schools, expanding voucher programs and creating New teaching licenses for individuals with no educational background. The expanded voucher programs are the fiscal problem.

Well funded advocates of privatizing the nations public education system have been promoting the Parent Trigger. Parent Trigger Laws are a mechanism that allows parents to transform underperforming public schools. The Parent Trigger was first promoted by a small charter school operator in California. It was taken up and launched inti hyper-drive by 2 controversial right wing organizations, ALEC and the Heartland Institute.

ALEC brings together major American corporations and Republican lawmakers to craft and vote on model bills behind closed doors. Some of these bills are Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, union busting legislation, Arizona style anti-immigration legislation and voter suppression laws. ALEC’s agenda has become so extreme over 40 corporations have severed ties with them. The Heartland Institute lost a lot of corporate sponsors after it launched a billboard comparing those who believe in Climate Change to the Unabomber.

In 1990 Milwaukee was thev first city in the country to implement a school voucher program. It was proposed by then Governor Tommy Thompson (ALEC member) and it was quickly embraced by ALEC. It was originally promoted as a program for Milwaukee’s low income students. But Walker expanded it to families of higher incomes and his 2013-2015 budget proposal threatens to expand it further. By 2014-2015 Wisconsin taxpayers will have spentvan estimated $1.8 billion on private and religious schools. School privatization interests have spent at least $10 million on political funding. Scott Walker alone recieved $2.35 million in contributions and outside support from pro-privatization groups. Critics have said that Republicans have hijacked the program. As soon as a door opens for lower income kids, they are trampled by the wealthy.

Governor Bobby Jindal tried to use the budget process to subsidize private and religious schools. But the measure was deemed unconstitutional by the Louisiana State Supreme Court. If only because the Constitution states that education money can only go towards public education. Hopefully Wisconsin has that sort of clause in it, maybe it can slow the Privatization of public schools.

The Republican party strongly supports privatizing public education. But then again they sneakily try to privatize anything they can. They have attempted to privatize the USPS and prisons just for example. Democrats and President Obama are trying to fix and streamline public education. They want to getvrid of No Child Left Behind, a horrible program that does nothing for our kids. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for private and religious schools. Paying for religious schools violates the 1st Amendment but creatingva state religion. But of course the Constitution only applies when it works for Republicans.

Oklahoma Senator holds constituents hostage over tornado aid.

Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe said that federal aid to tornado ravaged parts of his home state will be different than a Hurricane Sandy Aid Bill he voted against last year. He said everyone was getting in and exploiting the tragedy that was Hurricane Sandy. President Obama said he has already signed a federal disaster declaration for parts of Oklahoma, where tornadoes have caused dozens of fatalities and caused billions of dollars in damage.

Inhofe said that the Sandy Relief Bill was supposed to be in New Jersey but the Virgin Islands were receiving money, to fix roads and putting roofs on houses in Washington D.C. Both Inhofe and Coburn voted to slash aid to Sandy victims, with Inhofe saying he considered the full proposed aid amount to be a slush fund.

While Northeastern states like New Jersey and New York suffered some of the worst damage from Hurricane Sandy. The storm affected 24 other states as well, as it carved a path of destruction from the Caribbean Sea to the Great Lakes. Hurricane Sandy is believed to have cost $50 billion, making it the second most expensive storm in U.S. history.

Senator Tom Coburn is effectively holding his constituents hostage looking for budget cuts in order to approve Tornado Aid. He will not support Tornado Aid, disaster relief unless he gets budget cuts. This disaster is of course turning political just like any other issue Republicans touch. Americablog said Tom Coburn is taking his constituents hostage as budget cutting human shields. With complete contempt for the children who were killed and the people who were left homeless.

Maybe its time for Senator Coburn and Republicans to be voted out of office. He and his cohorts are not taking care of their constituents. A good place to begin cutting the budget would be the Oil industry. Why won’t they propose cuts to the subsidies given to this industry to make room for the aid bill? Big oil is making a lot of money, these people lost everything. Senators where are your priorities? But these 2 goons tried to Filibuster medical funds to 9/11 first responders. Say what you will about Democrats, but when people need help they don’t hold anyone hostage. They don’t use disastee to further their agenda.

Global warming, can President Obama help curb it.

Beaches across the world ate slowly being eroded away by the ocean. In one area people are going to leave their houses because the ocean us eroding the beach. In New York it is starting to overtake a highway, a moderate storm and the water is in the road.

The earth is warming. It us warming because of us, burning fossil fuels in our cars and businesses. It puts more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that traps more heat from the sun. The earth has not been this warm in 4,000 years. We have more than 2 times the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than at any time during humanity existing. At that time the sea levels were 100 feet higher.

Mostly by circumstance, partly by policy carbon dioxide emissions have dropped during President Obamas tenure. The Obama administration has had the power to regulate carbon. The Supreme Court the ordered the administration to deal with carbon. President Obama got corporations to agree with cap and trade deals, but Republicans put a stop to that.

Republicans call Climate Change a fake science and refuse to acknowledge the problem. By doing this they are enabling and encouraging wealthy corporations to ignore clean air laws. Democrats have been fighting for Climate Change laws, but of course anything President Obama does Republicans are against.

If we do not deal with Climate Change we are going to have serious problems. This is not a political game, its not about money or power, it is about the survival of humanity. It is time for us to deal with this, I find myself saying this way to much. Republicans need to realize they lost the election, there is a midterm next year and one in 2016. Get to work and get something done.

Climate Change Deniers, follow the money find the truth.

In his second inaugural address, President Obama said it loud and clear. We need action to fix our climate crisis and we need this action now. A few hours later the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (NRSC) said that they did not believe in climate disruption. Actually saying that they would attack Senators who took action on the climate crisis.

After a year in which millions of Americans felt the harsh effects of climate change, from droughts to wild fires to Superstorm Sandy- this is not just an illogical thought process, it is a horribly irresponsible position to take. But of course in politics if you follow the money, you understand the position. Oil and Gas corporations are among the NRSC biggest monetary backers. The committee has received more than $5 million from oil and gas interests in the last 4 years. Excommunicate Mobile, Koch Industries, among others have been funding far right organizations that have been attacking clean energy and climate change while propping up anti-science climate deniers. While it is not just fossil fuel companies fueling this denial of climate change, they are donating more than others. Some of the NRSC top donors are FedEx, Home Depot, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Wells Fargo.

The secretive Donors Trust has given millions to denying climate change. An analysis by Green Peace reveals Donors Trust has funneled at least $146 million to more than 100 climate change groups.  Some of the recipients were Americans for Prosperity, the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, the Heartland Institute and the Competetive Enterprise Institute. One of tie Committee for a Constructive Tomorrows main activities is running a website that acts like a clearing-house for articles that try and discredit the science behind climate change. They also launch personal attacks on people like Al Gore or climate scientists.  Many of these anti-climate change organizations were funded for the express purpose of spreading disinformation.

The majority of American people recognize that climate change is real. But once again the Republican party thinks that taking a position that is totally out of line with the American people and the future of our planet is a winning strategy. Democrats recognize the peoples wants and work towards making the realistic ones a reality. Republicans believe money means everything despite all their recent strategies proving fruitless.
