A well REGULATED Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
That one sentence, consisting of 27 words, is the NRA’s biggest defense. But I believe it is taken out of context. First off, I did not go to college, I have only read the Constitution twice, so I am not a scholar. The NRA is a lobbying arm for gun manufacturers, so they will fire people up and not care about the consequences because they are getting paid. Every death that could have been prevented by Universal Background Checks falls on the NRA, Republicans and Democrats who voted against it.
In my experience, people who defend the 2nd Amendment only know the second part of it. The right to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. They conveniently leave out the WELL REGULATED MILITIA. Regulate means to control or supervise by means of rules and regulations. So why is the NRA quoting only part of the 2nd Amendment? Because it is the part that works for them.
So something that is regulated is both controlled and supervised. But by whom? It would seem the free state. But what is the free state? Is it a single state or a coalition of states?
